As of late, cyber bullying has become a topic of some controversy. Several teenagers have resorted to ending their lives as a result of others harassing them over the internet. One case in particular that received much attention was that of a young thirteen year old girl who committed suicide after receiving a message from a woman saying that the world would be better off without her. Now, perhaps I am being insensitive, but doesn't it seem rather irrational for someone to commit suicide after receiving a malicious comment from one person, mind you, a person they didn't even know? I realize that such comments can bruise one's feelings, and I sympathize with those whom experience severe chagrin when under a constant barrage of hate, but I believe that all this should motivate a person to be better, to be stronger. Henry David Thoreau once said, “It is what a man thinks of himself that really determines his fate." What others may say or think of you should not matter to you, for once you believe it, it will have become true, thus sealing your fate. This life is yours to lead; do not let others decide what is to become of you.

"Choose The Right"
Were often faced by problems that break us apart, were often put in situations that make us think twise, were usually hurt to understand what happiness is all about, but a simple bump in the road can't make you go a different way, just like a horse keep looking straight don't ever let nothing get in your way don't look left don't look right , you'll always find your way when you know you'r CHOOSING THE RIGHT!.

The Recession
As you all know we are currently in a recession. We are facing economic struggles. I have noticed that education is being hit pretty hard. Teachers are being laid off, and students are being crammed into classrooms. This really makes a big impact because teachers are unable to teach to so many students. Not enough attention is being paid to every student. This also doesn't allow teachers to focus on all students as they wish. Instead they have to fit in lesson plans that will work with so many students, and the same learning materials are no longer being taught. Since students aren't getting the attention they need, then this can mean that the graduation rates at schools will decrease. There has to be other alternatives to get us out of this recession, and making educational budget cuts is not the way.

HPHS Culture
The overall culture of HPHS is that most students do not work hard, are rather lethargic, and do not set high-achieving goals. The HPHS community of students needs to become more enthusiastic about studying, learning, being scholars and academic champions, and always choosing the right. Most students are wonderful young men and young women, but how can we change the HPHS culture so that students will work hard, work smart, work together, and always Choose the Right?
