Glad Tidings of Great Joy

Glad Tidings of Great Joy: The Birth of Jesus Christ

The Birth of Jesus Christ

Share the good tidings of great joy: that He lives! Luke 2:1-20 1 And it came to pass in those days, that there went out a decree from Cæsar Augustus, that all the world should be taxed . 2 (And this taxing was first made when Cyrenius was governor of Syria.) 3 And all went to be taxed, every one into his own city. 4 And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judæa, unto the city of David, which is called Bethlehem ; (because he was of the house and lineage of David:) 5 To be taxed with Mary his espoused wife, being great with child. 6 And so it was, that, while they were there, the days were accomplished that she should be delivered. 7 And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn . 8 And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. 9 And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid. 10 And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy , which shall be to all people. 11 For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour , which is Christ the Lord . 12 And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger. 13 And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying, 14 Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace , good will toward men. 15 And it came to pass, as the angels were gone away from them into heaven, the shepherds said one to another, Let us now go even unto Bethlehem, and see this thing which is come to pass, which the Lord hath made known unto us. 16 And they came with haste , and found Mary, and Joseph, and the babe lying in a manger. 17 And when they had seen it, they made known abroad the saying which was told them concerning this child. 18 And all they that heard it wondered at those things which were told them by the shepherds. 19 But Mary kept all these things, and pondered them in her heart. 20 And the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things that they had heard and seen, as it was told unto them.

The Coat: A Story of Charity

When Heber J. Grant was young, his parents were too poor to replace his old, thin jacket. Instead, his mother surprised him with a winter coat she had made by hand. Heber loved it. One day, as he was playing in the snowy street, he noticed a small boy crouched in front of an exhaust grate, trying to get warm. Heber gave his new coat to the boy, who needed it more than he did. This Christmas and always, take time to notice the people around you. What can you do to help them? Your service will warm your heart and theirs. “Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me” (Matt. 25:40).

Jesus Is Resurrected

Peter and John find the empty tomb. Jesus, now resurrected, appears to Mary. John 20: 3-18 3 Peter therefore went forth, and that other disciple, and came to the sepulchre.
4 So they ran both together: and the other disciple did outrun Peter, and came first to the sepulchre.
5 And he stooping down, and looking in, saw the linen clothes lying; yet went he not in.
6 Then cometh Simon Peter following him, and went into the sepulchre, and seeth the linen clothes lie,
7 And the napkin , that was about his head, not lying with the linen clothes, but wrapped together in a place by itself.
8 Then went in also that other disciple, which came first to the sepulchre, and he saw, and believed.
9 For as yet they knew not the scripture, that he must rise again from the dead .
10 Then the disciples went away again unto their own home.
11 ¶But Mary stood without at the sepulchre weeping: and as she wept, she stooped down, and looked into the sepulchre,
12 And seeth two angels in white sitting, the one at the head, and the other at the feet, where the body of Jesus had lain.
13 And they say unto her, Woman, why weepest thou? She saith unto them, Because they have taken away my Lord, and I know not where they have laid him.
14 And when she had thus said, she turned herself back, and saw Jesus standing, and knew not that it was Jesus.
15 Jesus saith unto her, Woman, why weepest thou? whom seekest thou? She, supposing him to be the gardener, saith unto him, Sir, if thou have borne him hence, tell me where thou hast laid him, and I will take him away.
16 Jesus saith unto her, Mary. She turned herself, and saith unto him, Rabboni; which is to say, Master .
17 Jesus saith unto her, Touch me not; for I am not yet ascended to my Father : but go to my brethren, and say unto them, I ascend unto my Father , and your Father; and to my God, and your God.
18 Mary Magdalene came and told the disciples that she had seen the Lord, and that he had spoken these things unto her.

Prayer of Thanksgiving | The Tabernacle Choir

  1. 1. We gather together to ask the Lord’s blessing;

    He chastens, and hastens his will to make known;

    The wicked oppressing now cease from distressing.

    Sing praises to his name;

    He forgets not his own.

  2. 2. Beside us to guide us, our God with us joining,

    Ordaining, maintaining his kingdom divine;

    So from the beginning the fight we were winning;

    Thou, Lord, wast at our side;

    All glory be thine!

  3. 3. We all do extol thee, thou leader triumphant,

    And pray that thou still our defender wilt be.

    Let thy congregation escape tribulation;

    Thy name be ever praised!

    O Lord, make us free!

Prayer

Prayer is a way to communicate with you Father in Heaven. Pray daily and sincerely.

 The Power of Prayer

HOW TO PRAY

The four steps of prayer include:

1. "Our Father in Heaven"

2. "I thank thee...." [Thank Him for specific blessings and things you are thankful for]

3. "I ask thee..."[Ask for His help. Plead with Him. Confide in Him. Talk with Him.

Pour out your heart to Him. Tell Him how you really feel. Council with Him in allyour doings on any topic.  Ask Him to guide and direct you. Ask Him to bless and

help other people and mention their specific names. Be completely honest and sincere

with Him]

4. "In the name of Jesus Christ, Amen."

"All things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive."

(Matthew 21:22)

"Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe

that ye receive them, and ye shall have them." (Mark 11:24)

"With God all things are possible." (Matthew 19:26)
